About Me
The best way to contact me? john@foundation4change.org

I began as Executive Director at the Foundation for Change in January, 2007. A long-time organizer in movements for border justice, immigrant rights, and LGBT equality, I try to bring to my philanthropic work the heart and practices of an activist.

I am a graduate of La Jolla High School, Dartmouth College, Oxford University – where I studied Philosophy, Politics and Economics as a Rhodes Scholar – and the Claremont School of Theology. An ordained Elder in the United Methodist Church, I worked from 1992 to 2005 as a pastor at United Methodist Churches in Southern California, including four years at a small bi-lingual church in Calexico, California. In Calexico I also served as President of the Neighborhood House, a community-based social services agency on the U.S./Mexico border.

I am also a writer: Doubleday published my first book, Mrs. Hunter’s Happy Death, in 2006. My writing has also appeared in The San Diego Union-Tribune, The Los Angeles Times, The Christian Century, and other publications.

Yes, I figured it would be easier/quicker to use some of my alternate email addresses. This add-to-group is NOT quick/easy. More soon.

John,
I am so sorry I missed the border tour on Friday! We got confused about the time, but my friends thoroughly enjoyed it. Thank you for leading such important events!

Hi john,

You and I met at the border fence once...maybe you remember. Anyways, we helped a community based organization wirte a proposal to your foundation and were able to get approval of SWIA to act as their Fiscal Agents. SWIA wants to know more about what is expected of them in this capacity. Do they have to report anything? Do then need to be involved in any way? Do they need to manage money or can they pass it on all at once,? Let me know if you prefer we have this conversation over the phone? thank you and saludos....laura silvan

Hi, John! I accept the invitation to be a "friend"; do I need to add you to my friends list to be able to send messages, or is that automatic if I accept an invitation?

Your members may want to keep an eye out Sept. 1 for my article at www.eastcountymagazine.org titled "Dying to come to America"; it discusses the tragic rise in immigrant deaths nationally and here in San Diego County.

Hi John: I met John Keasler years ago when I first arrived in San Diego - we're both now brothers in the Unitarian Church Men's Fellowship. We just did a Sunday service there with the LGBT group two weeks ago. I run the Writing and Learning Center up at Palomar College - I'm also an English prof there full time. So, I don't have a lot of time to get into trouble. I've been active since 1989 in NYC with ACT-UP, and in 1997 I moved to LA to take a job as a lecturer at Loyola Marymount Uni. Now I'm really happy to be in San Diego with a job and with my new flavors of activism. How 'bout you?

I believe we actually met at the event at the Scripps Institute, but you may not remember me. I'm a long-time modest donor to Foundation for Change and like the Pro Cambio concept. From what I hear, you are doing a great job.
