MAJOR SPONSORS

Welcome!

Since 1983 progressive San Diegans have been helping local leaders and activists launch grassroots groups that are part of larger movements giving shape to a more just and humane world – the movements for human rights, for economic justice and for environmental sustainability.

The Foundation for Change supports emerging leaders and organizations working for progressive social change in the San Diego/Tijuana region.

We are a member fund of the Funding Exchange, a network of publicly supported, regionally-based community foundations committed to “Change, not Charity”. We envision a “bi-national garden” of grassroots groups working for social, economic and environmental justice. We are growing grassroots movements on both sides of the border.

News for Donors

Reinvest Your Bush Tax Rebate
The American economy is under great strain, and what is Washington's solution? Tax rebates! And just as he did after the tragic attacks of 9/11, President Bush is suggesting that when times get tough, we the people should just "go shopping." We're not buying it. When the check comes in the mail, we're giving a portion of our rebate or refund to the Foundation for Change, to support local organizations working for progressive social change. It's the exact opposite of "going shopping."

Instead of chasing that short-lived high that comes with a trip to the mall, take satisfaction that your dollars are going to grassroots groups working for social justice.Think of it as a nice way to say "thank you" to President Bush. get more info >>

Donations by check or money order can be mailed to: Foundation for Change, 3758 30th Street, San Diego, CA 92103. Please make all payments to “Foundation for Change” and please note "Tax Rebate" on the memo line. All donations are 100 percent tax-deductible.

Foundation for Change Celebrates Marriage Equality
Foundation for Change Board President, Eric Isaacson, played an important role in the recent California Supreme Court decision sanctioning same-sex marriage. Eric authored an Interfaith Amicus Brief ("friend of the court") filed on behalf of a coalition that included over 400 religious leaders and faith organizations. To make clear that many people of faith support marriage equality, the brief argued "that same-sex couples should be afforded the same fundamental rights as different-sex couples to participate in the State-sanctioned institution of marriage."

Coalition Aims to Stop the Triple Fence
The Foundation for Change has joined a coalition of community-based organizations calling for a halt to Department of Homeland Security construction of triple fencing along the U.S.-Mexico border near the coast in San Diego. Executive Director John Fanestil has been a part of the leadership team that drafted statements of opposition now endorsed by dozens of community-based organizations and dozens of faith leaders from diverse religious and spiritual traditions.

Grantmaking Committee On the Move
The Foundation for Change continues to add members to its Grantmaking Committee, whose membership consists of grassroots leaders in a regional movement for progressive social justice. The Foundation for Change is strengthened by their collective, on-the-ground knowledge of under-represented communities in our region. The idea that decisions should be made by people who have personal experience working with the oppressed and under-served populations sets the Foundation for Change apart. This month the Grantmaking Committee will be bringing recommendations to our Board of Directors for over $50,000 in funding from our "San Diego LGBT Pride" and "FEX/Media Justice" initiatives.

Strategic Planning
Over 35 people – donors, Board members, staff, grantees and allies – participated in a weekend strategic planning retreat on the weekend of May 3 and 4 here in San Diego. The retreat was one part of an 18-month program in strategic planning that has been funded by the California Endowment. The aim of the program is to assist the Foundation for Change in achieving greater strategic focus in its work. If you would like to learn more about this ongoing conversation, and the future strategic direction of the Foundation for Change, please contact John Fanestil at 619-692-0527 or john@foundation4change.org.
